Myrna Southgate

"I was born in Sydney, and was fascinated from an early age by pencils and colour. I began drawing the things around me from the age of about 10. I knew this was what I was most interested in, and it was to became a lifelong interest. However,  marriage and a family put such pursuits on hold for some years.
Later on I sought tuition from many sources, including Hornsby Technical College, and workshops and classes with well known watercolourists. Occasionally I found I enjoyed working in pastels, although watercolour will always remain my first love.

I paint a variety of subject matter; landscape and the old houses of our early days being one of my main interests, and I have built up a large collection of drawings of historical homes from the Parramatta district through to Kurrajong Heights. Many of these buildings are no longer standing, having been demolished by developers.

I have had a number of solo and mixed exhibitions and have won numerous awards over the years, with many paintings going to overseas collections.

I have my works on permanent display at my home, and should anyone wish to view them, they would be  welcome to make an arrangement to do so."
