Myrna Southgate

Myrna was born in Sydney, and fascinated from an early age by pencils and colour, she began drawing the things around her from the age of about 10, but marriage and a family put things on hold for a number of years.

Much later she sought tuition from many sources, including Hornsby Technical College, and workshops and classes with well known watercolourists. Occasionally found she enjoyed working in pastels, although watercolour will always remain her first love.

She paints a variety of subject matter, but landscape and the old houses of our early days are her main interest, and she has built up a large collection of drawings of these historical homes from the Parramatta district to Kurrajong Heights. Many of these buildings are no longer standing, having been demolished to make way for the developers.

She has had a number of solo and mixed exhibitions and has won numerous awards over the years, with many of her paintings going to overseas collections.
