(If this page comes up with the message that active content has been blocked, Welcome Our society was established in 1967, with the idea of promoting, encouraging and facilitating the practice of the visual arts in the Hills District of Sydney. Classes and workshops in all media are held for adults, also after-school and Saturday morning classes for children. The children's classes finish each year with a Christmas party to which parents are also invited. Prizes and awards are given out and the children's artworks are put on display. We also have weekly painting groups, and portrait and life-drawing groups which are held monthly. Most activities take place at The White House, with some also currently at "The Cottage" in the Castle Hill Showground. Click here for a map of the Showground. The White House also accommodates a gallery, where members’ works are exhibited all year round. Visitors are welcome to come and browse around the gallery, either at a time when classes are held, or at other times by arrangement. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of each month (except January) at which visiting, well-known artists give demonstrations. Members and visitors are welcome to these meetings, with the entry fee being $3 for members and $5 for visitors. They are held in the George Bell Building, Doran Drive, Castle Hill Showground, Castle Hill. Click here for a map of the Showground. Other society activities, to which members and their friends can attend, include en plein air painting days, bus trips, painting holidays, and social activities such as our luncheons. Our two major exhibitions a year are the Art Award section in the Castle Hill Agricultural Show, usually held in or around March, and the Orange Blossom Festival Annual Art Awards, held in September. We also have Mother's Day and Christmas exhibitions of members' works. Membership currently costs $31 a single for the first year, then $25 for following years, with special rates for couples, students and pensioners. We have some very talented artists belonging to our society. Please take some time to browse their webpages, where just a small sample of their works are on display. Our society is a member of The Combined Art Societies of Sydney Inc.(CASS). Details of their activities can be found on their website at www.combinedartsocieties.com
